Chiropractic was invented on the premise that if a person is "Dis Eased", they were not well. What causes Dis (Not) Ease? In the early 1900's, Dr. Palmer said that the cause of "dis ease" or unwellness (if that is even a term) are three things: The 3 T's.
Toxins: these include anything from heavy metals, pollution, polluted water, but realistically it is mostly influenced by diet and nutrition. Trauma: it could mean a macro trauma which includes a direct impact to the body, car accidents, falls, sports injuries and micro trauma. The most common cause are postural based and repetitive motion aggravations. Thoughts: there is no wellness without the control of emotions and stress. Many people have developed systematic conditions due to psychological issues. After hearing many of the renowned "experts" in functional medicine (a new trend in medicine), it is comical that what mainstream medicine would "bash", is now become the solution for chronic diseases. Chiropractors for years have treated their patients through nutrition and behavior modification without the use of drugs. What we are seeing now, are the results of multigenerational use of antibiotics, highly processed foods, and high carbohydrate intakes. It is not the way our bodies were used to living, thus the only way the body can protect its self is through inflammation. Obesity are dominating our children as well as adults. Lack of physical activity, repetitive motion, and dependence on advancing technological gadgets, have contributed to increased fat mass and decrease in lean mass. People can conveniently eat at anytime with minimal effort. So what is functional medicine telling us now? Eat less calories. Eat no gluten. Eat no carbohydrates. Eat good fats. Eat good proteins. Take your supplements. Don't follow the food pyramid. Drink lot's of water! I actually tend to agree. It is what chiropractors have been doing for years. I have had many patients who have improved substantially with that recipe! I have had surprising results with the above recommendation. In summary, The basic recipe for success in treatment and in life is simple and you don't have to be a "Board Certified Functional Medicine" expert to achieve results. "Everything in moderation. Everything as close as God created it. Exercise and Laugh." This is the cure for the 3 T's. This is Functional Medicine.
