Belief!

Throughout the years of practicing chiropractic care, I still chuckle when I hear people saying "You're a chiropractor. I believe in chiropractic!" At first, I must admit, I did not understand why they would say such a thing. Is chiropractic an unknown religion or cult? Why does one have to believe in it? Do people have to believe in allopathic (medical) care? Do you have to believe in something for it to work? Look at the stats for how many failed surgical procedures occur every year. Does that mean those patients did not believe in medical care?

Chiropractic is neither a religion or a cult. It is a systematic form of healthcare that looks back to the spine and its relationship with the nerves. Chiropractic is not defined by an adjustment or a spinal manipulation. In fact, I have colleagues, who do not perform adjustments, ever! Many people think, when you practice chiropractic, all you do is twist someone back and get a crack, but In the mid 1900's, Palmer Chiropractic graduates only used Toggle Recoil technique, which does not produce any audible cavitation (crack) and does not require bending of the spine for the adjustment.

So do you or I have to believe in chiropractic? Do you have to believe that a circle has 360 degrees? Whether you believe it or not, the fact is that a circle has 360 degrees. Just the same, chiropractic, it works, plain simple! The body cannot function optimally, unless the nervous system is working optimally. What chiropractors do is analyze the body for misalignments that affect the nervous system, then correct them. But I do understand why people say they believe in chiropractic. Those are the people who had been to numerous types of healthcare providers and had lost all hope from the care they got until they went to see a chiropractor. I see it everyday, "believe it or not!"  Just ask my stage 3 Kidney failure patient!
